ALJUNIED GRC & HOUGANG SMC RACIAL HARMONY THROUGH NEIGHBOURLINESS WRITING COMPETITION
A) General information
All participants are deemed to have full knowledge of the
contents of these rules. The Organiser reserves the right to
revise these rules at any time, giving due notice to the participants.
There shall be no withdrawal of participation at any stage of the competition without a valid reason and prior approval by the Organiser.
The rules contained herein, and also all future amendments, are to be strictly followed. Any breach may result in the participant being disqualified from the competition.
No Plagiarism. Failure to submit an original essay will result in disqualification from the competition.
All entries submitted will be the property of the Organiser.
B) Eligibility
School Category
All students of Secondary levels, residing or studying in Aljunied GRC or Hougang SMC.
Open Category
Anyone, not in the school category, residing and studying in Aljunied GRC or Hougang SMC.

School Category
Write about an incident which helped you to learn the
importance of racial harmony in your neighbourhood.
This incident may be your personal experience or the
experience of someone else.
Open Category
Write about someone living in your neighbourhood who has
shown acts of kindness,compassion,tolerance or
understanding regardless of race,language or religion.
E) Submission
Participants can assess the website at

After completion of the registration form, participants are
required to email their essay submission together with the
registration form to rh.09.writing@gmail.com.

F) Guidelines for Writing
Essays should be typewritten,
in Times New Roman or Arial font,font size 11,double-spaced.
Each page of the essay submission should be numbered.
Each entry must not be more than 1000 words.
H) Judging
Entries will be judged on the following criteria:
• Relevance to the topic – 40 marks
• Meaningful and insightful – 30 marks
• Factual – 20 marks
• Ability to engage the reader – 10 marks
1 member representing each division will form the panel of judges.The total number of judges is 6.
Every judge will read through all the essay submissions.
The final score for a particular essay shall be the average of the 6 scores given by the judges.

The judges’decisions are final and shall not be questioned on any grounds.
H) Copyright
All entries must be original, unpublished, and created solely
by the submitting entrant(s) and not violate the intellectual property rights, copyright, or right of property of any third party, and must not have been submitted in any other competition.
Entries should not be concurrently submitted for other competitions, publications or broadcast until the results of this competition are announced
Entries which do not fulfill the above criteria will be deemed ineligible and will be disqualified.
The Organisers reserve the non-exclusive right, to publish, reproduce, display, distribute and show
on screen, any winning entries on associated websites, tradeshows, prints or any other media which is under the management of the Organisers.
In all cases where such entries are used, the Organisers reserve the right to do so without obtaining the further prior permission of the winner, and without offering any further compensation of any form.

The objective of this competition is not only to look for amateur and professional photographers who are able to capture mesmerizing scenes but also the ability to ingeniously bring out the essence of harmony between races.
B) Eligibility
The photography competition is open to Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents and foreigners residing and studying in Aljunied GRC and Hougang SMC.

D) Submission
Participants must attach the completed application form
with their contest entries and a description of about 150 words.

You may submit as many entries as you like but each photograph must be accompanied by an application form and a description.
Entries with incomplete documents shall be rejected.

E) Closing Date

F) Guidelines for Photographs
Submissions are to meet the following guidelines:a. Not contain any offensive images
b. Manifestation of the theme “Racial Harmony through Neighbourliness”
c. As hi-resolution digital image files in JPEG format with minimal compression and at least 3000 pixels on the longer side, in a CD-ROM; AND
d. As photographic prints that are produced by photographic laboratory process. All such prints must be of minimum 8R (8” x 10”) size and must not be mounted.
e. photographs must be submitted in its original state with no digital manipulation (except minor adjustment of brightness, contrast & cropping) and must be unpublished.
f. Participants may submit either colour or monochrome photographs
G) Judging
The winner shall be determined by the panel of judges.
Judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entertained.

• Overall technical quality

highlight the importance of our neighbours through your
interpretations of the theme.
So get your creative juices flowing and send us a short clip! Grab this opportunity to showcase your video making talent.
A) General Information
Participants can register individually or in teams of 5 or less
for the competition. For school category, all members must be
from the same school.
Participants are free to adopt the genre (e.g. graphic/flash animation, rap, music video, skit) but content must showcase
and promote Racial Harmony through Neighbourliness; be made
in good taste and exhibit creativity and artistic quality.
Participants need to provide a synopsis of not more than 500 words explaining the clip.
Your video clip should be at least 1 minute but not exceeding 5 minutes.
Incomplete submissions will be disqualified.B) Eligibility
